River Pools Install Info

Hey Everyone! I get many calls about our pool, so below is some info about our River Pools install. We began on Aug 31, 2020 and it ended on Oct 7, 2020. The plan:       How it started: How it ended: The pool, concrete around the pool, retaining wall, and retaining wall lights, and equipment were done by River Pools.  The equipment (left to right) is pump, filter (Pleatco PAP150 ~$70), chlorine ( Pool Frog XL Pro , chlorine pack ~$60) I currently do not use the mineral pack), UV light filter, electrical panel, and 200,000 BTU gas heater.  The heater heats at 3.5 - 4 °  and hour. The cost is about $20-40 per day depending on how cold and how long you run it.  Here are some pics after landscaping. Landscaping done by Backyard Magicians .  The pool is the I30 and holds 7,947 gallons. We have the LED lights and two bubblers on the tanning ledge. I do not have the app/wifi panel controls. During construction we did not hit rock so no extra ch...

Pool Water Filters

Filtering water, and cleaning the filters isn't a fun task. It really doesn't take that long, but not one of the more rewarding things about owning a pool. For reference, I run a chlorine pool with a pleated filter and UV filter.

I have a 150 square foot filter, the Pleatco PAP 150 was what came with the pool. I didn't realize until 3 months in that I needed to change that thing out every week or so. Needless to say, it was pretty dirty when I finally changed it out and cleaned it.

It was during covid, and supply was iffy so I purchased 3 more from different places to make sure I got one. I got all 3 and until June 2023, I rotated them evenly. I purchase in December 2020 3 additional Pleatco PAP 150's.

What I learned is all Pleatco's are not the same. The original one was better built and held up way better than the 3 purchased online.

For the 5th and newest filter, just purchased, I decided to go with Unicel. After one use, I prefer this one over the Pleatco's.

The left is the new Unicel. The middle is the Pleatco purchased in December 2020. The right is the original Pleatco.

The middle has bands that are no longer attached. The original Pleatco has all the bands attached. The pleats are much tighter as well. There is nothing on the filter that would suggest it is a different type. I thought maybe one was commercial/professional, but everything I can see tells me they are the same model number.

We will see how the Unicel holds up. So far, I prefer it, but time will tell.

I noticed that Unicel has 4 bands and Pleatco has 6, but as long as they hold it really doesn't matter to me.

Let's give the Unicel some time and I'll post back results.
